Yale University
Sculpture Gallery

The Yale University Sculpture Gallery is adjacent to the Sculpture Building. The project, designed by KieranTimberlake Architects, (link) obtained LEED Platinum certification. CitiLog provided 3 outdoor Oak benches upcycled from trees that stood on the building site. A student can be seen sitting on the benches in the left hand picture, and part of the benches can be seen in the right hand picture.

These are massive slabs of wood, the cuts to square off the two sides, top and bottom are perfectly true.

The benches were an immediate hit, students and faculty use them constantly.

This project illustrates that upcycled wood, returned to the site from which it came, can create a connection between new and old. This wood belongs here, not in a landfill.
