Petersburg Commons

Petersburg Commons is a two-building complex located near the beautiful Susquehanna River and the Appalachian Trail in Duncannon, Pennsylvania. It includes a total of 14 townhomes and was designed to be environmentally friendly. CitiLog provided upcycled Hemlock siding for the entire complex.

CitiLog provided Eastern Hemlock siding. Hemlock is naturally rot resistant and weathers beautifully over time.

Eastern Hemlock is a beautiful wood with a wonderful grain. The siding is a board and batten pattern.

The goal of this project was to create affordable housing units that would use 50% less energy than similar, conventionally built housing. Monthly electric bills at the town houses average about $100 less than those of a conventional unit. One resident reports that her highest monthly electric bill was $76 for her all-electric house. Funding for the project came from a unique combination of public and private sources. The project shows what can happen when someone says - the status quo is unsatisfactory. Green homes can and should be available to people of modest means. This project proved that was possible.
