University Of Pennsylvania

The Civic House describes itself as "the University of Pennsylvania's hub for student led community service and social advocacy work". So it goes without saying that the proposal to remove the four tallest trees surrounding the building was controversial. The four Norway Maples labeled in the photograph were causing significant damage to the sidewalks, choking out virtually all other plant life, and in the case of trees A & B were making it difficult to construct a handicap access ramp to the building. CitiLog was called in to make sure that these trees could continue to give back to the University even after they were removed. CitiLog built tables for the Civic House offices from the trees.

To help educate Penn students and staff the flyer above was posted around the building. The realization that the wrong tree in the wrong place can be destructive, especially to other plant life, helped the community understand that the trees needed to come down.

CitiLog constructed a number of tables out of the Norway Maples for Civic House offices. They now support the important work that takes place in this building. Because the trees came back to the same site that they originated from the project qualifies for CitiLog Full Circle Repurposing Platinum status.
